There have been several attempts to break into the monopoly that has traditionally been considered major league baseball, but no one has had much success for more than a season. But that's not to say the attempts were futile. In fact, 63 years aago this week, as the Continental League named Branch Rickey its first and only president, it started a chain of events that led to the first expansion of ther American or National League since the 19th century. Mike and Bill dig through the league's origins and accomplishments, even as it failed to play a single game.
